Am Freitagabend, den 30. Januar 2026 wurden in Park City des US-Bundestaats Utah die Independent-Gewinner des 42. Sundance Filmfestivals 2026 verkündet.
Das 42. Sundance Film Festival fand vom 22. Januar bis zum 1. Februar 2026 in den Städten Park City und Salt Lake City im US-Bundesstaat Utah statt. Es gilt als wichtigstes US-amerikanisches Festival für den Independent-Film und stand zum dritten Mal unter der Leitung von Eugene Hernandez.
Die deutsche Co.-Produktion "Shame and Money" des im Kosovo geborenen und seit 1993 in Deutschland lebenden Regisseurs Visar Morina hat beim Sundance-Festival in der internationalen Wettbewerbssparte "World Cinema Dramatic Competition" den Grand-Jury-Preis gewonnen.
Der Hauptpreis in der Sparte "U.S. Dramatic Competition" ging an den Film "Josephine" von Regisseurin Beth de Araújo, der auch im Wettbewerb der 76. Berlinale laufen wird. Das bewegende Drama holte zudem den Publikumspreis. Zur besten US-Doku wählte die Jury den Film "Nuisance Bear" über einen Eisbären mit weniger Lebensraum.
Die Preisvergabe fand im Ray Theatre in Park City statt.
